    fainting goats

Check out the fainting goats here.

today is the real first day of fall

Today is the first day since last spring that I’ve busted out the jeans. Long pants. Full length trousers. Non shorts. Warm leg wear. Hence, the change of seasons. Forget the ground hog. Track my trouser wearage. I am the season signpost. You know it’s true.

    Battlestar Galactica

Only a few weeks left until the new season starts. Yay. In the meantime, check out the webisodes. If you haven’t watched the show yet, you’re missing out. Check out the story so far. There’s even a DVD you can get from Netflix to help you on your way. What else do you want?

I have the original mini series on DVD which I *highly* recommend.

Ok, go on, check it out. What are you waiting for?

    e85 - Flexible Fuel

So my new Nissan Titan truck is a Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV), which means it can run on e85, a mixture of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. “Ethanol is a high octane, liquid, domestic and renewable fuel, produced by the fermentation of plant sugars. In the United States, ethanol is typically produced from corn and other grain products, although in the future it may be economically produced from other biomass resources such as agricultural and forestry wastes or specially grown energy crops.”

I finally got around to looking for an e85 fuel station. Do’h. Not gonna happen. At least for now. There’s one in Berkeley (insert Berkeley joke here) and one in Livermore. Dammit. So much for using e85 in my truck in the near future. Maybe they’ll put a filling station somewhere in San Jose one of these days. If so, I’m happy to go out of my way to use it, but Berkeley or Livermore? Yeah, right.

a first step in a cure for Cancer

Everyone is affected by Cancer and our story is not unique or sadly uncommon at all. We had a friend pass away a couple of years ago. She was thirty seven. She was a friend of B’s from nursing school.

This article about a new gene therapy approach to curing Cancer is fantastic news.

Hopefully we can also make some progress against Parkinson’s disease, which also hits close to home for me.
